Time for young people, Newham

Time for young people is our new emotional wellbeing support space for young people aged 10 to 25 who live and study in Newham, east London.

Growing up can be difficult. Young people are trying to figure out who they are and where they belong. They might be facing big challenges. We’re here, whenever you’re ready.

How Time for young people helps

Time for young people empowers young people to take time for themselves. They can press pause, breathe, and move forward. Young people choose what support they access and when.

Our trained staff can help you as soon as you’re feeling unhappy or finding things difficult. We’ll support you directly. Together, we’ll work through your problems to try and stop things getting worse.

Time is the question and the answer

We can help with:

  • dealing with hard feelings
  • figuring out your relationships
  • questions about your identity or culture
  • plans for the future
  • feeling safe in your community
  • other challenges.

Drop in support:

You can visit our hub or our drop in support in community spaces to speak with a trained practitioner about your wellbeing.  We will help you to develop new skills and provide resources to support your wellbeing.  We’ll help you use your own strengths and networks to move forward.

What does group support look like?

We offer group sessions, too, working flexibly to offer support in the areas where you feel you most need help. These sessions will run over four to six weeks. You’ll come together with other young people who are facing similar challenges to share your ideas and shape the sessions. They might include working on wellbeing skills or pursuing a shared interest. Sometimes, we’ll run these sessions with other expert organisations like local youth centres.

What can’t Time for young people support with?

At Time for young people, we won’t assess or diagnose any conditions you might be dealing with and we won’t automatically make referrals to other services. There may be times where we feel we need to speak to other people, services, or agencies about something you have told us – for example, if you’ve let us know that you or someone else is in danger. We’ll always try to speak to you about this first and let you know what we need to do.

Need urgent support?

A mental health crisis is an emergency that has a direct and immediate threat to your physical and emotional safety. In a situation like this, it’s important to get help quickly.

Try to stay calm and ask someone for help. It could help to tell someone you trust, maybe a family member or a friend. They can be with you and help you decide what to do. They can also contact other services on your behalf.

If there is any immediate risk to life, contact the emergency services by calling 999.
