Next Generation

Next Generation (Next Gen) is a long-term, intensive support service based in Nottingham City and county, working with young people across the city, who have experienced cumulative complex issues and are dealing with risks and difficulties in their lives.  The young people we work with have often been abused, neglected and/or exploited.

How Next Gen helps

Through our intervention we aim to reduce extra-familial risks, risks of the young people being permanently excluded from school, and we aim to improve young people’s mental health, wellbeing, confidence, and self-esteem.  Young people who have worked with Next Gen have left the service with increased aspirations, raised self-belief, better relationships and feel that they have had a say in decisions that affect their lifeThrough working with Next Gen the cycles of disadvantage are disrupted and young people go on to have improved life chances, they develop more trust in services which can lead to not only developing a better understanding of the systems of support that are available to them, but they are also better able to navigate these systems.

Next gen

Next Generation has a team of skilled, knowledgeable and experienced practitioners in

  • Childhood adversity and trauma-informed practice.
  • Attachment theory and psychosocial development.
  • Relationship building (our small caseload funding enables strong relationships to be built).
  • Systemic working.
  • Creative, flexible, and adaptable working practices to meet individual needs.
  • Young people advocacy.

We can and will work with parents/carers if this is appropriate and necessary.  We can provide:

  • General support.
  • Support to instil boundaries within the home.
  • Support to engage in multi-agency meetings – this can include transport, facilitation with communication, breaking information down into more manageable chunks, simplifying jargon.
  • Relationship scaffolding.
