Steer Clear
With the support of the West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner, we’re working to protect young people from knife crime.

Steer Clear

When young people live in communities where they don’t feel safe, sometimes carrying a weapon can feel like the only way to stay safe.
From autumn 2023, Steer Clear will work with young people under 18 across West Mercia to change things for the better and build safer communities for everyone.
Through education and support, we aim to improve young people’s understanding of knife crime and offer alternative solutions, aiming to reduce serious youth violence.

How we work
We offer group support for young people and their parents and carers, as well as targeted one-to-one sessions for young people who may have been carrying a weapon or have been pulled into criminal activity.
We work with schools, the police, social care, activity providers, and others to keep young people safe from harm and prevent the criminalisation associated with youth knife crime.
