Time for young people, Torbay
Time Torbay at Checkpoint Wellbeing Hub is a new support service for young people aged 11 to 25 who live or study in Torbay.
Growing up can be difficult. Young people are trying to figure out who they are and where they belong. They might be facing big challenges. We're here when you're ready to talk.
How Time helps
How Time for young people helps
Time for young people empowers young people to take time for themselves. You can press pause, breathe, and move forward. You can choose what support you access and when.
Our trained staff can help you as soon as you’re feeling unhappy or finding things difficult. We’ll support you directly. Together, we’ll work through your problems to try and stop things getting worse.
We also help you to develop new skills and provide resources to support your wellbeing. That might include finding strategies and techniques to make your life easier, like how to manage a panic attack or get better sleep. We might suggest you look at other online resources or speak to another service.
We can help with
At Time for young people, we won’t assess or diagnose any conditions you might be dealing with and we won’t automatically make referrals to other services. There may be times where we feel we need to speak to other people, services, or agencies about something you have told us – for example, if you’ve let us know that you or someone else is in danger. We’ll always try to speak to you about this first and let you know what we need to do.
We can help with:
- dealing with hard feelings
- figuring out your relationships
- questions about your identity or culture
- plans for the future
- feeling safe in your community
- other challenges.
We also help you to develop new skills and provide resources to support your wellbeing.
Drop-in support
The support space will give young people a place where you can drop in and meet trained staff one-to-one. Whatever challenges you’re dealing with, you won’t be judged. Instead, you’ll get the tools you need to understand your emotions, build strong relationships, and feel stronger.
There will be space to relax and other practical resources, too. There’s no need for an appointment or a referral, and there’s no waiting list. Young people can come along and talk through what they’re struggling with, whenever they’re ready.
Further support
Bookable support
We want to make sure young people across Torbay can get the support that’s right for them. So, alongside our drop-in support, young people will be able to access more structured one-to-one sessions if they need help for a longer period of time.
Your wellbeing practitioner will talk to you about setting up these sessions if you both feel that they’re needed. The sessions will build on your strengths and skills, working with them to find effective ways to help. Sessions will be tailored to your individual needs. These sessions will be available Monday to Friday, 9am to 4pm at our support space. Depending on availability, your practitioner may be able to meet you elsewhere, in a space that works for you.
therapist
Together with their wellbeing practitioner, you'll work through goals, self-help strategies, resilience building, and more, so that you feel empowered to take control of your own wellbeing.
We will offer group sessions, too, working flexibly to offer support in the areas where young people say they most need help. These sessions will run over four to six weeks and groups of young people will be able to come together with others who are facing similar challenges to get help. Sometimes, we’ll run these sessions with other expert organisations like local youth centres.

Need urgent support?
A mental health crisis is an emergency that has a direct and immediate threat to your physical and emotional safety. In a situation like this, it’s important to get help quickly.
Try to stay calm and ask someone for help. It could help to tell someone you trust, maybe a family member or a friend. They can be with you and help you decide what to do. They can also contact other services on your behalf.
If there is any immediate risk to life, contact the emergency services by calling 999.
