Holding a coffee morning or cake sale is such an easy way to fundraise, but why do it for The Children’s Society?

The Children's Society Bake and Brew

The money raised from cake and coffee will help children and young people through our direct practice, policy work and influencing work. We run 80 services across the country working with vulnerable children and young people in areas including sexual exploitation, runaways, young carers, refugees, children living in poverty and more. We also lobby the Government and help change laws that impact the most vulnerable children in our society.

Last year we directly helped over 18,000 children and young people through our services, and positively impacted 5.6m children as a result of our campaigning and lobbying work. Thanks to the income raised by generous supporters like yourself we are able to continue the vital work we do and reach even more children and young people.

Your support helps young people like Charlie

Your fundraising helps us support vulnerable children and young people with disadvantages such as caring responsibilities who often don’t get to have a childhood. Children like Charlie.

Charlie is 18 and has been caring for his mum since he was four. His mum suffers from multiple sclerosis and over the years Charlie’s care has varied from giving her medication every week, to emotional support to help her look on the bright side. Charlie says: ‘I would find if my mum was having a couple of bad days with the illness that I would crack and I would break down if I didn’t know what was going on.’

If his mum has bad days with her illness, Charlie can find it hard to cope. So he got involved with one of our young carers services. Here Charlie was able to speak with trained professionals and other young carers, and gain the skills, knowledge and confidence he needed to improve his well-being and quality of life. Charlie says the help he has been offered is a lifeline, and the support he’s received over the past two years has allowed him to become his own person.

Now, Charlie is preparing to go to university and says: ‘If I hadn’t had the help from The Children’s Society and everyone involved, I don’t think I would have progressed really at all from where I was all those years ago’. There’s so much good that’s happened, and now I can’t wait to see what the future holds.’

Project worker for The Children's Society

Raising money at your Bake and Brew can make a big difference to the lives of children and young people we support. Young carers are an example of the type of children we support through our projects:

  • £50 could pay for a project worker to give immediate care and support to a young carer.
  • £75 raised at a coffee morning or cake sale could pay for a series of workshops for young carers to talk about their lives, and provide support to each other.
  • £100 could pay for a series of workshops for young carers to talk about their lives, and provide support to each other.
  • £200 could help train a new project worker to provide the vital care and support young carers need to help them cope with their day-to-day responsibilities
