Support from benefits plays a vital role in protecting children and helping families who are desperately struggling to make ends meet.

We all need support sometimes. Yet too often those who have been helped by benefits get ignored, misrepresented or at worst blamed for their situation.

The Who Benefits? campaign ran from 2013-15, giving a voice to the millions of us who have been supported by benefits at some point in our lives. Some of the most disadvantaged children and young people live in families relying on benefits for the very basics.

What we achieved

Led by us, Crisis, Gingerbread, Macmillan Cancer Support and Mind, the campaign challenged the negative rhetoric and portrayal of people in receipt of benefits in mainstream media and political debates. Above all, the campaign championed voices – gathering and highlighting over 2,000 personal stories to show why people need support from benefits and how crucial this help can be.
