The government has made a clear commitment to give 'due consideration to the UN Convention of the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) when making new policy and legislation.' The government’s own impact assessment of the Bill falls short of this standard, by excluding cases relating to children under 16 and failing to take into account their unique rights under the UNCRC.
