These searches constitute a significant intrusion into children’s privacy, protected under the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) as well as the Human Rights Act. The government must provide evidence to show that these measures are necessary and proportionate in order to be lawful; otherwise, the provisions must be removed.
