The Children’s Society welcomes the introduction of Universal Credit, and the government’s intention to simplify the system, make work pay and protect the most disadvantaged disabled people. We share our concerns that the abolition of the Severe Disability Premium could lead to 25,000 disabled lone parents losing up to £58 per week and the 42,000 children likely to be affected.
