What does this service provide?

By Your Side provides holistic support for separated asylum seekers, refugee and migrant young people aged 14 to 21, across London. We assist with the asylum and immigration process and help young people to access a range of their entitlements across education, health, finance, support from Children's Services and with other practical needs.

As well as support from intensive one-to-one advice, advocacy and case work, we also offer:

  • Fortnightly group and social activities for service users to improve their emotional and mental wellbeing. These sessions aim to develop self-esteem and confidence and reduce isolation, by helping them build a peer-support network with other young people who have been through similar experiences.
  • A befriending scheme for our more vulnerable and isolated young people. These young people are matched with a volunteer befriender who visits them in their local area to develop life skills, pursue interests and support them to develop local connections in their community.
  • An In-house therapist to work with the young people who are ready to engage in one-to-one therapy. We provide integrative trauma-focused therapy (using the three-phase trauma model) We can accommodate children and young people who need short-term as well as long-term therapy, offering a flexible amount of sessions. We are experienced working with interpreters.
