Paul Maher

Paul Maher

Paul is our Head of Business Development, with more than 25 years’ experience working with young people.

Before joining our team Paul has worked as a Youth Work Co-ordinator, a Local Authority Area Manager in the North West, as the Assistant Head of Integrated Youth Support Services and as a Programme and Area Manager at The Children’s Society. He has proven success leading strategy and developing missing from home and care services for young people.

As our Head of Business Development, Paul is a motivated manager with excellent business development, strategic and operational skills and he secures vital income for our services aiming to break the cycle of multiple disadvantage in young people’s lives. This funding comes from Local Authorities, Clinical Commissioning Groups, Police Crime Commissioners and Central Government.

When Paul was young he had the lofty ambition of becoming Prime Minister, but he's now more passionate about young people than politics and believes that all young people are entitled to a high quality of life and deserve first class services and support within their local communities.

Rob Dickinson

Rob Dickinson

Rob is our Business Development Lead in the North of England, with 10 years’ experience working in children’s well-being. Before joining our team, Rob was the Families, Young People and Well-Being Service Manager for Child Action Northwest.

As Business Development Lead in the North of England, Rob negotiates and partners our diverse services with Local Authorities, Clinical Commissioning Groups, Housing Associations and Police Crime Commissioners, improving our impact and increasing our reach through innovation.

Rob is interested in the impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE’s) and how Routine Enquiry, supported by Trauma Sensitive Services, can prevent lifelong and debilitating mental and physical conditions. Rob is passionate about embedding routine enquiry and understanding adversity in childhood, and he is keen to share personal experience of implementing this approach into existing service and new programmes of work.

Rob is also a keen golfer and footballer, although he spends most of his spare time being a dad!

Tim is our Business Development Lead in the South and East of England and London, with more than 15 years’ experience working in the charity sector.

Before joining our team, Tim worked as a Senior Leader in charities delivering Youth, Employment and Community Development services, specialising in the Welfare and Education systems and was previously the Chair of the Institute for Youth Work.

Dara is our Director of Children and Young People and has more than 20 years' experience working in and directing services provided to young people.

Dara has a breadth of experience working for local London Boroughs as a Service Manager and Head of Youth Support Services and as a Director of Services in a children's charity.

With a background in teenage fostering and social work, Dara is passionate about young people and breaking down the barriers that they face. As our Director of Children and Young People Dara will work on continuing to deliver excellent innovative and sustainable services, helping to change young people's lives. She will work with you to ensure that the services are meeting your needs and protecting and helping young people.

Rob Jackson

Rob Jackson

Rob is our Area Director of the North of England and has 15 years’ experience working with children and young people from backgrounds of multiple disadvantage.

He works on business development opportunities and is responsible for all the services operating in the North. Rob formulates and implements organisational strategy and rolls this out across the services, helping to break the cycle of multiple disadvantage among the 5,000 children and young people that our services in the North work with.

As Area Director, Rob manages the relationships with many funders – including public bodies, individual philanthropists and charitable foundations. Rob also leads on safeguarding and quality assurance in the region and is often involved in local and national media opportunities to showcase our work.

Away from work Rob spends lots of time with his family and is a keen golfer and cricket fan.

Rob Willoughby

Rob Willoughby

Rob is the Area Director of the Midlands and leads on our Mental Health services. Rob has developed numerous partnerships and innovative approaches in order to better respond to the challenges young people with multiple disadvantage face.

As Area Director, Rob manages the relationships with many funders – including public bodies, individual philanthropists and charitable foundations. Before joining our team, Rob was Assistant Director at Wolverhampton Local Authority and has also worked in Central Government and the NHS.

Rob has a keen interest in how young people access the services that are available to them.

Gary Thomas

Gary Thomas

Gary has been at The Children Society since 2013, and is currently the Area Director for the South England area (which includes the South West, South East, East of England and London) and also has leadership responsibilities for our Post Adoption and Care team.

Gary is a social work professional who has more than 20 years’ experience in leading and managing children social care services. He is also a registered and a degree-qualified social worker and has a Masters in Leadership and Management of Voluntary Organisations.

Gary has worked for services around substance misuse, early years and family support, homelessness, youth offending, children’s residential care services and child protection social work. Before joining The Children’s Society, Gary held senior leadership roles at Depaul UK, National Childminding Association, Action for Children, and within Local Authorities within the South East and London areas.

He has worked collaboratively with large county and unitary authorities, the Department for Education, the Department of Health and the Home Office, to design and deliver quality and innovative services to children, young people, families and communities.

Gary is dedicated to delivering strong outcomes and impacts to better the lives of the most vulnerable young people, and those at risk from significant harm. He is able to bring a range of skills and experience to service design and delivery, quality assurance, workforce development and safeguarding practice.

His interest lie in challenging individuals, teams and organisations to become critical players in thinking and shaping better services for young people.

Kirsten Naude

Kirsten Naude

Kirsten is our Head of Investment and Partnerships and develops, manages and implements the Accelerating Impact commercial strategy. Kirsten and her team target digital provision, social technology, innovation and investment and new cross-sector collaborations, to create innovative services which help to break the cycle of multiple disadvantage.

Kirsten has a great deal of experience designing, developing and delivering services for children and families and previously spent five years at National Family Mediation as Director of Services. Part of her week is spent consulting other voluntary and community sector organisations on innovation, organisational design and business development. She is passionate about seeing the lives of those who are vulnerable or disadvantaged changed for the better.

Outside of work, Kirsten’s interests are adrenaline sports, gigging with her band, gaming and people watching!
