The Children’s Society has joined the growing number of organisations to back the Stop Hate For Profit campaign to halt Facebook advertising as it gains increasing traction beyond the United States and in the UK.

The charity will pause the majority of its advertising on Facebook during the month of July.

Joe Jenkins, Director of Engagement and Income Generation at The Children’s Society, said: “The Children’s Society welcomes this campaign and the initiative taken by advertisers to challenge Facebook to better moderate content that targets people because of their race or religion.

“Given our own commitment to anti-racism, we are proactively reviewing our own advertising – and have decided to pause all but essential spending related to our frontline services on Facebook from 1 July.

“This also reflects our support of this #StopHateForProfit campaign and will enable us to consider the ways in which we promote our work with vulnerable young people.”
