The Children’s Society’s 106 charity shops closed until further notice following the end of trading on Saturday.

Mark Russell, Chief Executive at The Children’s Society, said:

“It is with deep sadness and a heavy heart that we have taken the decision to temporarily close our charity shops.

“We have taken this really tough decision because first and foremost we want to do all we can to protect our wonderful staff, volunteers and customers from the risk of the coronavirus.

“While their support enables us to raise millions of pounds each year to offer vital help to some of the country’s most vulnerable children and young people, people’s safety must come first.

“Like many charities we are concerned about our ability to fund our work at the current time, particularly as we might expect more young people to need our help.

“As well as our shops, fundraising and supporter events, which also bring in crucial income, are being affected.

“Despite this, we are enormously grateful for people's continued generosity and will be doing all we can to enable supporters to offer help to The Children’s Society in ways that are safe and have the biggest beneficial impact for children.”

Anyone who is in a position to help can contact The Children’s Society’s supporter care team on 0300 303 7000 from 9am-5pm Monday-Friday or by emailing supportercare@childrenssociety.org.uk
