The Children’s Society has appointed Dara de Burca, currently Director of Services at CLIC Sargent, as its new Director of Children and Young People.

In her new role at The Children’s Society, she will lead the charity’s  frontline services to support vulnerable children and young people across the country, breaking the cycles of disadvantage that blight too many young people’s lives.

Before joining CLIC Sargent in 2009 Dara de Burca was head of Hackney Youth Services, a commissioner of young people’s services in Hackney and Hammersmith and Fulham boroughs. Before that, from 1996 to 2003, she was a service manager of young people’s community and residential care services in the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham.

Dara de Burca started her career as a residential social worker and manager in care homes for children in Ireland and London. She has a postgraduate social work qualification, has worked in child protection and fostering and is trained as a social work practice teacher.

Matthew Reed, Chief Executive for The Children’s Society said: “We are thrilled to welcome Dara to our organisation. She brings with her a wealth of experience in strategic leadership in children’s services.

“We work with some of the most disadvantaged children across the country who often have a multitude of issues in their lives. We look forward to working with Dara so she can lead our services and help us in our mission to disrupt the underlying causes of these problems so young people can thrive.”

Dara said: “I have long-admired the work of the Children’s Society and I share its determination to tackle the deep, complex disadvantages that face too many children and young people today.

“I look forward to working with young people, staff, volunteers and partners and to playing my part, as Director of Children and Young People, in taking forward the charity’s ambition to shape and deliver excellent, innovative services that change lives.”

Dara will join The Children’s Society in mid-January replacing Krutika Pau who has been leading the Children and Young People’s Directorate on an interim basis.
