In response to the launch of the Mental Health Taskforce Report, Sam Royston, Policy Director at The Children’s Society, said:

'This important report rightly highlights the serious struggle that young people are facing when dealing with mental health problems.

'Most worryingly, traumatised young people are being let down by a system which is unable to intervene early to prevent the development of more serious conditions. These children – including those who have been victims of sexual exploitation – need guaranteed access to therapeutic support. Significantly increased funding is urgently needed to make this possible.

'Inadequate children’s mental health services are prioritising short-term savings over long-term outcomes. Immediate investment in better services would improve these children’s wellbeing now, and increase their chances of a better life in the future. Now is the time for action.'
