Joe will be leaving his role as Director of Engagement at Friends of the Earth after five years with the charity to take up his new post at The Children's Society in the new year (January 4).

Joe is currently responsible for fundraising, communications and activism at Friends of the Earth and was acting CEO for six months earlier this year.

Prior to that Joe was Head of Fundraising Strategy and Donor Development Manager at the RNIB. He is a trustee of Refugee Action, a champion for social justice, a well-respected fundraising leader and a leading advocate of relationship-based fundraising.

Matthew Reed, Chief Executive of The Children's Society, said: 'I am delighted that we have appointed Joe to The Children's Society to lead our fundraising. Joe will bring his experience and insight to work with our tremendous supporters so The Children's Society can grow its critical work of transforming the lives of many more vulnerable and damaged young people.

'Strong relationships with our supporters have sat at the core of our fundraising for well over a century and we are committed to now developing that further. We look forward to welcoming Joe to our organisation and our executive team to help us to do just that.'

Joe Jenkins said: 'I couldn't be more excited to join The Children's Society and help to lead a renewed focus on supporter relationship fundraising. I'm passionately committed to the importance of fighting child poverty and neglect, and look forward to playing my part in helping all children and young people have a better chance in life.'

Craig Bennett, CEO of Friends of the Earth, said 'Joe has been an incredible asset to Friends of the Earth over the last five years.  He has transformed how we engage, fundraise and mobilise our supporters to take action.

'Not only a great communicator, he has substantial campaigning and policy knowledge that has informed the ways that we motivate our supporters to both campaign and donate.

'He will be missed and we wish him all the best in this exciting new role.'

Notes to Editors

  • The Children’s Society is a national charity that runs local services, helping children and young people when they are at their most vulnerable, and have nowhere left to turn. We also campaign for changes to laws affecting children and young people, to stop the mistakes of the past being repeated in the future. Our supporters around the country fund our services and join our campaigns to show children and young people they are on their side.
