Unexplored Riches in Medical History project

Today, Ian Wakeling talks about the Wellcome Trust’s Research Resources scheme to support our Unexplored Riches in Medical History project

100 years of History

The project, now in its second year, has been making great advances in cataloguing and conserving the records of the residential homes that The Children’s Society ran for almost 100 years up until the 1970s.

In the video (below), Ian focuses on the wealth of information about child health and the effects of poverty contained in these records.

So far we have received over £285,000 in funding from the trust, £102,309 in August 2013 and additional grants of £35,000 and £42,180 in September.

We believe this funding will help shed light on the history of childhood diseases, treatments, medical care and social health in the 19th and 20th centuries. If you would like to know more about the Unexplored Riches Project and its work visit the Hidden Lives Revealed page and our blog section.
