Five steps to making 2020 your year

Christmas is nearly over, you’ve eaten your body weight in roast potatoes and you’re preparing yourself for those January blues. Get ahead of them and follow these steps to a new you.

1. Go outside

Yes, I know it’s cold - but even a bit of fresh air and natural light can greatly improve our well-being. Our brains love daylight and it even regulates our sleep cycles properly.

2. Be kind to yourself

Treat yourself and practice self-compassion. Don’t be discouraged if you find yourself hitting a setback. Reward yourself for effort, not outcomes. Remember to speak to yourself the way you would to a friend – with kindness.

3. Try something new

Comfort zones are great and offer security but they can sometimes be a dangerous thing as they can cause us to stagnate and stop developing.

Take a step outside of that safety net and set yourself a challenge. When you do that something you’ve always wanted to do but never quite got there and fear has held you back, it’s an amazing achievement.

4. Get your sweat on

I know you’ve heard it before but it’s true! Exercise is not only great for your physical health and fitness but also for your mental well-being. Physical activity releases endorphins and lifts your mood, so it’s about time we lift our own spirits.

5. Help others

Just doing something nice for someone else can make you feel better. Seeing them smile at you because of your action will boost your self-esteem and encourage a more positive outlook in life.
