Join us for Bake and Brew

Today we kick off Bake and Brew Week, which is seven days of supporters from across the country having delicious cakes – with friends, family, colleagues or anyone else in their community – to support our work.

This week is packed with groups and individuals across the country organising bake sales, cream teas and other baking-related events at offices, homes, churches – really any place where you can have pies, cupcakes and anything baked with a warm cuppa.

If you are not already organising an event, we invite you to do so, either this week or any time – you can host a Bake and Brew event whenever is most convenient for you.

If you are organising an event, please let us know how it goes via email or our Pinterest page!

Why Bake and Brew?

There are several reasons you may want to hold a Bake and Brew event:

  • It is simple to do.
  • It’s a fun way to catch up with friends and colleagues.
  • You get to practice – or show off – your cake-baking skills.
  • At the same time, you raise money for our work supporting vulnerable children and families.

If you have been one of our long-time supporters, you may know of our National Coffee Morning. This year we decided to extend that event to a week and rename it 'Bake and Brew Week'.

Examples of past Bake and Brew events

Earlier this summer, one of our great supporters in Kempston, Carol Palmer, organised a strawberry cream tea event at her church. Her group raised over £300 from the tea.

She wrote: ‘I had to pay £20 for the use of the Church Hall, the strawberries and cream cost £12 and everything else was donated including homemade scones. We had a good team of people in the kitchen preparing the food and everything ran smoothly.’

Special thanks goes to Helen Marie Looker from Cake 'n' Bake and Karen Weitzel from Cakes by Karen for making the cakes and the toppers for this event.

How can you get involved

To make your Bake and Brew event a roaring success, we have produced a fun range of free fundraising materials and ordering really is a piece of cake.

Visit our Bake and Brew section to download materials – invitations, posters, quiz – and find top tips on fundraising and planning your event so please don’t forget to check them out.

If you're looking for baking inspiration, visit our Pinterest board to find yummy treats and great recepies.

We hope you organise an event this week – or any time. When you do, please share photos and let us know how it goes!

Whether it’s a cuppa and cake around a desk at work or a tea party with all the trimmings, you will be helping The Children's Society to provide permanence, stability and security to children who often have to face life’s challenges on their own.

So, join us during this year’s Bake and Brew Week from 3-9 September (or any other time throughout the year) and pop the kettle on, bake a cake, gather some friends and raise vital funds to help vulnerable and disadvantaged children.
