Give up this day our daily Twix

I’m giving up chocolate for Lent. Not a terribly original idea, I know, but I can’t think of anything I’d find harder to give up for five weeks. As a regular mid-morning visitor to our office vending machine, I eat chocolate – Twix, specifically – almost daily. I don’t know how I’ll live without them and their chocolaty, caramelly, crunchy goodness for the next 40 days.

I don’t normally give anything up for Lent but decided to this year after hearing about our new Benevolent app. Benevolent helps you calculate how much you’ll save by giving up a certain treat for Lent and then lets you turn that into a donation towards The Children’s Society’s work with vulnerable children. It also looks really cool.

When I used Benevolent for the first time I was shocked to find that I could save a whopping £21 by giving up chocolate for Lent! That money is clearly better spent on helping improve the lives of disadvantaged children than it is on adding to my waistline.

It’s not just about the money, though. I know I’m going to find living without chocolate for five weeks really tough at times. However knowing that I’m doing it for such a good cause will definitely help me keep going, even when I really fancy a piece!

What are you giving up for Lent?
