#CSEDay17 - Raising CSE Awareness

Two events-two days: CSE awareness in West Yorkshire

Daniella Amann, CSE Outreach & Development Worker in West Yorkshire updates on our activity in Bradford, Keighley and Calderdale.

hand-in-hand service

On Thursday 16 March in Keighley Airedale shopping centre, the wonderful Jessica Ross from our Hand in Hand project hosted and co-ordinated awareness raising discussions with young people to explain the different CSE services available to them.

The Hand in Hand team was joined by partner agencies including Police, Children’s Social Care, Bradford Youth Service, Keighley Healthy Living, James Project, Keighley College and Barnardos.

We had a fantastic day raising awareness of CSE amongst the local community and hosted a variety of fun activities such as arts and crafts, a juicer bike and DJing. We also asked community members to take part in #helpinghands by writing positive messages and making pledges to support young people who have experienced or at risk of CSE.

CSE awareness day

On Friday 17 March we were based in Bradford City Park. Joined once more by Barnardos, the police and Children's Social Care we had a great day and were able to reach a much wider audience. Young people had a great time on the climbing walls and were able to receive advice and information from the sexual health outreach van and drug and alcohol team. The day was much more focused on talking directly to young people to raise awareness of CSE and our local support services.

We have also delivered two training events to professionals in Calderdale this month in partnership with Calderdale Council, The Blast Project and PACE. The training focused on the local picture and CSE in marginalised communities, with a specific emphasis on Gypsy, Roma and Traveller Communities.

The training allowed us to raise awareness to 25 professionals. Other training events will be held in West Yorkshire over the coming months and if you would be interested in attending please contact Danielle Amann.

CSE awareness in Birmingham

Kerry Boffin, coordinator at Streetwise, updates on the successful events they held this week.

Kerry boffin - cse awareness day

On 15 March we were at Birmingham New Street station with the British Transport Police, talking to the public about our services and explaining how we can work together to stop CSE.

CSE awareness with the police

The following day we were with the police at the World Café at Coventry City Council. The Council are hosting a theatre production which is designed to get professionals talking about how they can intervene and spot the signs of CSE.

The days have been a huge success. Down at Grand Central station, our fantastic Streetwise and Coventry teams spoke with over 200 people, recruited 3 volunteers and worked tirelessly to raise awareness with our TCS resources.

Thank you all for raising awareness for #CSEDay17. Between you all we have made contact with over 400 people, including members of the public, Police Community Safety Officers and British Transport Police. We have also had a request from the local Police Community Safety Officers for CSE training!
