Celebrating Volunteers’ Week

Yesterday, Sunday 7 June, marked the last day of Volunteers Week 2015 and a fantastic seven days of celebrations.

We had events up and down the country from Torbay to London, Birmingham to Oldham, Newcastle and Norfolk to name a few. Cake, flowers, teas, coffees, speeches, cards and certificates were abound as staff showed their huge gratitude and appreciation for the incredible contribution of volunteers.

Last month we launched our national volunteer recognition scheme, which includes certificates commemorating the amount of time people have volunteered with us. Volunteers’ Week provided the perfect opportunity to award the certificates and a staggering 600 years of volunteering was celebrated throughout the week.

Volunteers’ Week online and beyond

We wanted to make as much noise as possible online as well as on the ground  - so our staff showed their appreciation on our website, Facebook and Twitter pages with a special video:

Over a thousand people watched the video on our Facebook and Youtube pages and Civil Society Media showcased it as one of their highlights of Volunteers Week with their Deputy News Editor tweeting us.

We also had inspiring volunteer blogs published every day during the week – if you haven’t read them yet do take a few moments to hear about some of the different ways that people contribute their skills, passion and expertise to play their part in our mission

Those are just a few of the fantastic stories from individuals who volunteer their time. We have almost 9,000 volunteers across the country – 9,000 stories, motivations, sets of skills, interests and passions – and it is these incredible volunteers that make The Children’s Society a truly national movement for change for children and young people in this country.

Thank you

To each and every one of you thank you for everything you do – we couldn’t do it without you.

I was certainly inspired by Volunteers Week – I signed up last week to be a Box Coordinator.
