Allestree Committee celebrates half a century of fundraising

I recently attended an event at the local church of the Allestree Committee, who were celebrating an amazing fifty years of fundraising for The Children’s Society.

The Venerable Dr Christopher Cunliffe, Archdeacon of Derby, spoke at a thanksgiving service to recognise fifty years of the committee's hard work.

The committee was also thanked during a speech given by Joe Jenkins, our Director of Fundraising and Supporter Engagement, and Jo Manning from the National Stars Initiative, spoke about how the money raised directly helps our local services.

Local impact

The committee have become so well known within the local area.

Their coffee mornings are legendry and regularly raise over £1,300.

They have done so much over so many years to raise awareness about The Children’s Society and the warmth and gratitude of the local community was palpable at the celebration event.

Once all the speeches were complete and the service came to a close, everyone tucked into a hearty lunch. It was great to see the energy the committee inspired in others as everyone talked and enjoyed the food.

Thank you to everyone who has been involved in the committee over the decades, your fundraising has made a huge difference to so many vulnerable young people.
