Advent: Stop payday loan ads with our ‘Ready Teddy’ campaign

In today's Advent calendar blog, we look at the impact of problem debt from pay day loans, on the lives of children.

From our work up and down the country, we know that many families face financial struggles, especially at Christmas time. Reliance on quick cash from payday loans can have a damaging impact on vulnerable children and families, causing a spiral of problem debt that can be difficult to recover from.

The catchy jingles that are used to advertise payday loans mask the severity of the issue and make taking out a loan seem fun or trivial. To highlight this issue, we’ve created a spoof payday loan advert with our ‘Ready Teddy loan’ bears.

We believe that children should learn about managing money through their schools and families, not irresponsible adverts like this one.

Thanks to our supporters speaking out, the advertising watchdog has launched a consultation into the scheduling of payday loan ads. Please join us again and ask them to ban these ads from being shown during children’s TV shows.
