A magical time at Henley Festival supporting young carers

As Henley Festival drew to a close, the Hidden exhibition was still standing proud on the banks of the River Thames.

It had pride of place for the duration of the festival, giving thousands of festival-goers the opportunity to discover the stories behind the portraits of young people who care for loved ones and find out more about the hidden lives of young carers.

Family Sunday

We hosted a fun, entertaining area at Henley Festival on Family Sunday, a day dedicated to children and families with lots going on across the festival.

Children got stuck into colouring-in, drawing and chasing bubbles, while our photo booth, very kindly donated by the Photo Cabin, had lengthy queues all day with hundreds of guests striking poses in support of young carers.

Our huge Hidden Cube was added to throughout the day by adults and children alike, who contributed their colouring-in, thoughts about the Hidden exhibition and photo booth snaps.

Young carers go behind the scenes

Melissa and Rinah, two young carer champions, had the exciting chance to do work experience shadowing Henley Festival’s artistic director and the press tent. It was amazing to see them at the festival, enjoying a unique opportunity and having fun.

Rinah said 'I had the wonderful opportunity to shadow the artistic director of Henley Festival- Stewart Collins. During the day I met many members of team that help run the festival, and many of the performers and artist. I learnt the role of an artistic director is very important and exciting. I especially enjoyed two artists that styled people's hair into really crazy, unique eye catching things. Seeing how hard everyone was working to ensure that everything runs smoothly and people have fun was really motivating. I am definitely looking forward to attending next year if I can!'

Thank you to everyone who visited us at Henley Festival on Family Sunday, we had a great day and hope you did too. And thank you to everyone who bought tickets to Henley Festival 2016; thanks to you we will be able to help more young carers, just like Linzi, through our partnership with Henley Festival.

We’re already excited about Henley Festival 2017 – watch this space to find out what’s in store for next year!
