Congratulations to Jim Davis, who has received an MBE in the New Year honours awards.  Jim, Good Childhood Adviser for The Children’s Society, was awarded the MBE for his services to children and young people.

Jim has served The Children's Society for 30 years in community, youth and social work. As Programme Manager of the Children’s Participation Project (CPP) Wessex, Jim and his team worked with children and young people across Bath and North East Somerset, specialising in working within rural and with traveller communities.

Among his many achievements, Jim secured a positive reputation for our ogranisation with travellers, and developed new play opportunities in rural communities.

More recently, Jim has broadened his work with us, spearheading the Good Childhood Conversations, an initiative born out of the independent Good Childhood Inquiry, where he was the only staff member on the panel.  He generates and leads continuing debates about childhood at a local and national level, with the aim of creating a better childhood for all children.

Jim said:

'It is very humbling to be honoured in this way, not least because the work I have done has been conducted with some wonderful colleagues. In 30 years of service with The Children's Society I have seen many changes and developments.

'But what remains constant is our vision to bring the best childhood possible to children who need our support the most. That vision for all children to receive a good childhood is what continues to inspire me.'
