What is the Family Support Group?

Together with CHOICES, we deliver family support groups and one-to-one support across Essex for those affected by their family or friend's substance use.

Who can attend the groups?

All attendees must be over the age of 18 and affected by substance use.

The groups will not exceed ten attendants and will allow access to one-to-one support before, during and after completion of the course.

What support does the group provide?

The groups are led by a professional facilitator who will provide information and education on what addiction is and how it affects people physically, mentally and emotionally.  The aim of the group is to empower the families living in these circumstances. By giving them the tools taught to support a family member or to set rules that allow both user and family to have a clearer objectives and overview of a healthy new relationship.

These groups consist of a 7 week programme covering modules that include:

  • Boundaries and consequences
  • Positive Behaviour
  • Drug awareness education
  • Appropriate support of users
  • Addiction information

How do I access the groups?

Groups and one-to-one support can be accessed through referral form only and can be completed via self or professional completion.

Send completed referral forms to

Groups will be delivered during the daytime and evenings and will be in areas where the highest concentration of referrals are located. Those interested in attending the groups are welcome to attend any group they can travel to.
