Changing lives together

Our supporters work hand in hand with us to help children experiencing the most serious problems

Working alongside our incredible supporters

We’ve achieved so much for young people in the last year.

Our services continue to offer children the best possible support; our campaigning and policy work is bringing real, lasting change for generations to come; and our partnerships with businesses, councils and fundraising bodies are continuing to bring results that allow thousands of vulnerable children to flourish.

Perhaps most importantly, the close relationship we have with you is helping us reach even more vulnerable young people, raising awareness of their plight and encouraging more and more people to take action to help them, so that no child feels alone.

Our work

Together we’re making a difference to the lives of millions of children now and in the future.

Our project workers help children with their problems by listening, supporting and acting to change their lives. They work with children one-to-one and in groups to help them stay safe and rebuild their lives when the worst has happened.

We’re with them for as long as it takes, making the small changes that make a big difference.

Thanks to your support, we’re able to run over 100 services that work with vulnerable young people, and our policy and campaigning can change laws to make sure our children are happier and better protected.

Hou

When he was 13 Hou’s parents were detained by the Chinese authorities and he fled to the UK.

Hou was taken to a British couple, who abused him physically and sexually. After several months, Hou managed to escape and started sleeping rough in London. He was recruited by a gang and was arrested while working for them.

When he was taken to an immigration centre and faced deportation, Hou began a hunger strike in an attempt to end his life. He was referred to us and we supported him to appeal his deportation order and apply for asylum.

His project worker also provided him with one-to-one sessions to start recovering from his years of trauma and subsequent mental health issues.

Hou is now 24 and has been awarded refugee status.

‘When my worker visited me for the first time, he gave me hope again.’

Your support

This year you have achieved so many great things.

Supporters of all ages and from all walks of life have helped children in so many different ways.

You have climbed mountains, volunteered in our shops, made Christingles, hosted events, lobbied your MP and so much more.

Without you, so many young lives would not have changed for the better.

Thank you – together we have accomplished so much.

‘It feels like a family sometimes. I am very proud to help here' - Volunteer

Working with the Church

Together with the Church community we’ve made life better for hundreds of thousands of children in this country, and raised millions of pounds that have made sure young people have someone to turn to when they need it most.

This year Christingle services raised £1.2 million to help young people who need someone to be there for them.

Volunteering

This year over 12,500 amazing volunteers joined us in supporting this country’s most vulnerable young people.

Without your time, energy and commitment we would not have been able to reach as many children as we have. This year there was a 25% increase in our volunteers numbers.

Our campaigning work

Our fantastic supporters have taken 51,769 campaign actions this year, helping to bring change for over 3 million children and young people across the UK.

We campaign on a local and national level to ensure that MPs and decision-makers take steps to make life better for young people. By campaigning together we can continue to make a difference.

Fundraising

By fundraising and taking part in appeals, you’re providing vital support to this country’s most vulnerable young people.

In the last year a fantastic 52,617 supporters responded to regular appeals and gave to key areas of our work.

Together we’re making a huge difference to some of the most vulnerable children and young people in communities across the country.
