Wiveliscombe Children's Centre serves the rural market town of Wiveliscombe, the surrounding 10 parishes and further afield. It incorporates the 45-place Paddocks Nursery with its exciting outdoor area and emphasis on outdoor play.

We were commissioned to provide support to all under-fives, their parents and pregnant mothers in our geographical reach area. We regard ourselves as a community resource so brunches and holiday sessions include older children and members of the community use the food co-op.

We strive to ensure that the children's centre is open to all regardless of their age or background. Working in partnership with parents and listening to children is very important to the way we work, with the parents forum helping to shape and develop our work.

Our centre family support and outreach staff provide groups on site – the Triple P Parenting programme, monthly family brunches, Baby PEEP where adults and babies learn together, breastfeeding support and numeracy and literacy support.

Volunteering

This legacy report has been produced to celebrate the impact of the Devon and Somerset Children's Centres’ Volunteering Scheme. Thanks to funding by the Department of Health, this project has changed the way The Children’s Society in Devon and Somerset has involved volunteers in its children’s centres. Although the funding has now ended, the children's centres will continue to use volunteers as we are very clear as to the benefits they bring to our work with children and their families.
