We're aiming high for disabled children and young people

13 August 2008

Disabled twins Jess and Louise Allen have been involved with The Children’s Society Shared Care project in Solihull for 15 years. Solihull Shared Care has been running for over 20 years, which means the twins have grown up with the project and made firm friends with many of the long standing specialist project workers. The award winning project offers disabled children and young people regular access to everyday activities in their local community.

Since the twins were three years old they have enjoyed short break activities with The Children’s Society. “We have been to lots of places that we would never have had the chance to go to if we hadn’t been at Solihull Shared Care,” Jess and Leanne Allen reflect. The twins remember that one of the best outings they had was going to Chester Zoo when they were 12 years old.

“The Children’s Society has changed our lives in many ways. Not only have we made some fantastic friends, friends that, along the way have taught us what it is to be independent and taught us the importance of being ourselves and knowing rights. We have also made memories that we know will stay with us for a lifetime,”
Jess and Leanne Allen.

The Children’s Society approach to providing short breaks for disabled children and young people is to provide a flexible range of services tailored to the individual needs of each child or young person and their family. Our services are available at the times when children and families need them.
