40 years of shining light into darkness
13 August 2008
Christingle is a wonderful, candlelit celebration, which places children at its heart and helps us to shine a light into darkness for the thousands of children we support. Held between Advent and Epiphany, Christingle enables us to bring together friends, families, young and old, allowing us to explore the Cornerstone messages of the Christian faith and put the Christian value of charity into action.
This year, as we celebrate 40 years since introducing Christingle to the Church of England, we would like to invite you to join in the celebrations by organising your own Christingle event.
From September we will be able to supply you with a wealth of practical and useful resources to help you to get involved in a way that suits your requirements.
To find out more, pre-register for your FREE Create-a-Christingle pack visit www.christingle.org or call 0845 300 1128. Your pack will be sent out in early September, giving you enough time to create your own special celebration.
Over the last four decades, the tens of millions of pounds raised through Christingle have enabled us to work with children facing life’s harshest challenges. Children like Jason, 16, who came to The Children’s Society’s Check Point drop-in centre one afternoon saying he didn’t want to go back home as his Dad had been hitting him.
Our project workers listened to Jason, giving him a refuge from his home situation and the space to think about what he could do next. He was provided with emergency accommodation and supported in the following months as he found somewhere new to live and deal with what had happened to him. Thankfully, he is now happy living with his grandparents.
By raising money through Christingle, you will help us to build a society where children like Jason are not forgotten and childhood is valued, respected and supported. Pre register for your Create-a-Christingle pack today.
Christingle originated in the Moravian Church in 1747.
