How to make a Christingle
Christingles are easy to make and many of the required materials can be ordered free from The Children's Society. To make your Christingle just follow these easy steps:
- Encourage everyone to wash their hands before handling the sweets.
- Take an orange and fasten a piece of red tape around the middle.
- Cut a small cross in the top of the orange and lay a square of silver foil (75 mm/3" square) over it.
- Place a wax candle on top of the foil and wedge it firmly into the
orange (the foil catches the hot wax). - Load four cocktail sticks with raisins, sultanas, cherries or soft sweets, so the points are covered. Insert them around the base of the candle.
- Store Christingles upright in a cool place until they are needed.

Giant Christingle
Why not use one of the suggestions we've received for making a giant Christingle, to help you tell the Christingle story in church?
Glow sticks
If you want an alternative to using wax candles in your Christingles, why not try glow candles, available to order from The Glow Company Ltd.
Christingle discs
If you'd like an orange-less Christingle, why not follow St Giles' Aintree's idea of creating Christingle discs to hold the candles with. They painted them orange and drew on a ribbon and sweets and gave them out with a bag of sweets with it so the children don't miss out!
