Thornton's Chocolates

The Children's Society joined forces with Thornton's in a four year cause related marketing partnership.

From 1998-2002, Thornton's and The Children's Society developed a fundraising and promotional package which delivered on generating positive PR, increasing sales for Thornton's and raising vital funds for our work with children and young people.

Activities included:

  • A donation from the sale of chocolate rabbits at Easter. Jasper Rabbit sold out in the year 2000 selling 52,000 rabbits and raising £26,000.
  • Linking new Thornton's store openings with our local children's projects. This achieved 100% PR coverage throughout the campaign. £500 was donated to a local project for each store opening.
  • Advent calendar promotion at Christmas with an on-pack donation. All 128,000 calendars sold out, raising over £32,000 for The Children’s Society.
  • Launching a 'children's week' to promote the partnership, to increase footfall in stores and to maximise PR opportunities
  • Involving high profile celebrities in activities. Thornton's created lollies in the image of Gary Rhodes and Barbara Windsor with a donation from each lolly sold going to The Children's Society.

This exciting partnership generated some inspired ideas, garnered fantastic regional and national PR and raised an astonishing £200,000!
