Each week we will publish a prayer, reflecting on issues in the news or in the life of The Children's Society. You can find this week's prayers below.

We would encourage you to use the prayer in your personal devotions, in your church service, or by printing it in your church notice sheet. But however you use it, please do join us as we pray with and for children and young people.

Prayers for July

Written by Caitlin Burbridge of the Contextual Theology Centre. These reflect the themes of The Heart of the Kingdom, our collection of essays on theology and children living in poverty.

7 July

A prayer for vulnerable children in our local area

Lord Jesus, who raised Jairus’ daughter from the dead, we ask for protection and restoration for all vulnerable children who live in our communities.

Lord, thank you that you love all the little children in our communities.

Give them food for their bodies and food for their souls.

Lord may they meet people who encourage and inspire them

May they grow to know true joy

14 July

A prayer for the children in our own church community

Lord God, who through the small offerings of one boy was able to feed 5,000, we ask that we may also love and develop the children in our congregations.

Lord we thank you for the children in our churches.

Lord you love them for who they are

Thank you for their gifts, their personalities and for their sense of fun

May they have the opportunity to grow into the people you created them to be

21 July

A prayer that we might learn from children

Lord God, who restored sight to the blind and hearing to the deaf, help us to have eyes and ears to see and listen to what children have to teach us

Lord, thank you for the gifts you have placed in the children around us

Give us humility to see what children can offer our churches

May we learn from them

Help us to develop churches where adults and children are friends

28 July

A prayer that we might act boldly to help those children around us

Lord God, who stepped out and touched the leper so that he was healed, help us to be bold in our actions and ready to support those children most in need of your help.

Lord we thank you for your example to us; one of bold faith and compassion

Give us courage Lord Jesus to see where we also can be bold.

Prompt us Lord to see vulnerable children in the same way that we see the children in our own congregations

Lord help us to encourage them so that they can also grow in the gifts that you have given them
