Melksham committee's cake bake
Every September during Bake and Brew week, our Melksham committee organises a fantastic, one-day cake bake.
The committee members and supporters all bake different types of baked goods - cakes, breads, quiches and more - then sell them in different venues in the precinct.
The sale begins early in the day and continues until all cakes have been sold - it's usually a very successful event.
Organisation and promotion tips
Members of the committee meet at the home of their chair, Trish, and discuss what to bake, where to sell and how to promote it.
Each member usually makes the same thing each year - something they are good at.
They spread the word through their town by posting advertisements in church magazines and bulletins in the local paper. Each advert asks for donations of cakes and lets people know about the event. The committee members also put up posters around town.
Special touch
Trish said that The Children's Society's set of values and name make the day special. Trish explained that many of the people who buy cakes and baked goods could not eat them due to various diets, but they still came to support The Children's Society as they like to support us and our work.
