Instead, buy a day out, a Christmas party or a present for a young person.
We are very proud to be an associate partner of Greenbelt, the Christian festival of arts, faith and justice. Each summer, 20,000 people make their way to Cheltenham Racecourse for a mix of more than 650 events including music, comedy, poetry, talks and drama.
We’re back at the festival this year from 23-26 August to highlight the reality of life for the 3.5 million children living in poverty in the UK.
Find out about our events this weekend and visit our stall in the G-Source to join our campaign support the country's most vulnerable children.
The UK has one of the worst rates of child poverty in the industrialised world, and children are considerably more likely to live in poverty than adults.
Growing up in poverty blights their childhood and future life chances. That’s why we campaign for disadvantaged children to receive all the support they need, like free school meals.
Free school meals play a crucial role in lifting children and families out of poverty, but currently more than half of all school-age children living in poverty don’t get them. These 1.2 million children may not be eating a single nutritious meal all day.
Our Fair and Square campaign aims to make sure that every child living in poverty gets a free school meal.
Over the past two years, thousands of Greenbelters joined our Make Runaways Safe campaign, to ask the government to ensure that children and young people who go run away from home have a safety net.
Thanks to your support, more than 30 councils have signed up to the Runaways Charter and are working to make runaways safe, changing unhelpful attitudes towards young people and ensuring they can find the services they need. This has made a real difference to young people who run away.
Please join us now if you haven’t already done so, and watch our videos from the 2011 and 2012 Greenbelt festivals.
