Children affected by parental substance misuse

Between 250,000 and 350,000 children and young people are affected by parental drug misuse in England and 1.3 million children and young people are affected by parental alcohol misuse.

The Children's Society has developed a range of projects that offer support to children affected by the misuse of drugs and alcohol, whether it is their own misuse, or the problems of family members or friends.

Children and young people regularly tell us through research and consultation that drugs and alcohol are among their biggest concerns. There is extensive research to suggest that substance misuse is a prevalent reality in the lives of all children and young people we work with.
