Children in trouble with the law

We lobby government and parliament on youth justice policy and policy relating to youth crime and anti-social behaviour. We also seek to influence the agencies involved in the delivery of youth justice, including the youth justice board, youth offending services, the police and the courts.

We have regular meetings with officials at the Home Office, Ministry of Justice and the Youth Justice Board, and we have contributed to various committees within these departments. Our Chief Executive, Bob Reitemeier, is a member of the Youth Justice Board for England and Wales.

We work collaboratively with a range of charities to help children in trouble with the law. Our policy director is currently vice chair of  the Standing Committee for Youth Justice which is a voluntary sector consortium.

In recent years we have produced reports or commissioned research looking at different aspects of the youth justice system.  We commissioned a three-year study from the University of Central England to look at the experiences of black and minority ethnic young people in the youth justice system and the findings, Just Justice: A study into black young people’s experience of the youth justice system, were published in 2006.
