Working with disabled children in Thanet
We offer a short break service, which is a referral service for disabled children and young people.
Short break service
Our short break service is a referral service for disabled children and young people aged 6 to 16 years.
Short breaks provide enjoyable experiences away from their primary carers, thereby contributing to their personal and social development and reducing social isolation.
We aim to ensure that disabled children are happy and have access to activities, organised leisure, sport and outings that are age appropriate and of their choice. Children are supported to develop social networks and friendships.
Our short break service includes Saturday and holiday clubs.
June talks about her 16-year-old son Archie’s experience at a short break play scheme
The play scheme has been a lifeline for Archie, in that he finds it difficult to socialise with his peers and use appropriate social gestures. The workers on the scheme have given Archie the help he needed to find these skills.
I feel confident leaving Archie at the play scheme knowing he will be well looked after.
