Improving Futures (Tyneside)
Project Co-ordinator: Judith Paxton
At Improving Futures (Tyneside) we aim to transform the lives of children living in families with multiple and complex needs, in some of the most deprived wards of north and south Tyneside.
We provide early intervention and support for children (aged 10 and under) and their families, using Tyne Gateway’s 'barefoot professional' approach. Six parents have been recruited and trained from within the target communities to become 'family entrepreneurs' who started the work in November.
The family entrepreneurs have a hands-on, practical approach and work closely with the child, the family and the school to agree a way forward. As appropriate, they develop and commission bespoke services to meet specific needs.
The project is being delivered in partnership by The Children’s Society and Tyne Gateway Trust and is a Big Lottery-funded project for three years.
