Children's Rights and Participation, Torbay
Location
Programme manager: Caroline Jones
Children's Rights and Participation in Torbay works with children and young people aged 8-19 (or up to 25 with additional needs), making sure their opinions and experiences influence services in the area.
We do this in lots of different ways including:
- advocacy
- young people's forums
- young people's recruitment and selection panels
- consultations.
Children's Rights and Participation was initially developed to offer advocacy to children and young people involved in the child protection system. It expanded in 2000 to also offer advocacy to looked after children and young people.
The Take Part participation project was a project within Torbay Children's Fund and developed participation activities for children and young people aged 5-19, focusing on those considered 'disadvantaged' and 'seldom heard'.
Running since 2003, Take Part supported young people's forums, young people's interview panels and consultations, and developed training for young people and adults in participation. Children's Rights and Take Part merged in 2008 to become Children's Rights and Participation.
