Offender Related Service (ORS)
What we do
The role of the Offender Related Service (ORS) team is to provide a specialist service to the Youth Offending Team (YOT) staff and young people in the criminal justice system in all matters relating to substance use.
Our ORS workers are typically involved with higher-risk young people, but all young people at all levels are encouraged to engage with EYPDAS.

How we do it
Our services include consultancy, information and training provision for professionals, but primarily involves the assessment and delivery of needs-led care packages for young people. These care packages may include one-to-one sessions with individuals, and/or small group sessions and are available to young people using substances. Sessions are also available for young people affected by parental substance misuse.
The ORS team carries out a number of activities in supporting young people in the youth justice system. These may include some or all of the following:
- drugs education
- harm reduction
- relapse prevention
- court attendance
- court reports
- prison through-care
- needle exchange
- drug testing
- onward referrals
- diversionary projects
- parenting groups
- representation at professionals/safeguarding meetings
- linking substance use to offending behaviour.
Our partnerships
Where appropriate, our ORS workers link young people into other elements of the EYPDAS service, such as guiding them to the Substance Intervention Team, or linking them into an outreach project.
The ORS team engage with and develop positive relationships with YOT workers, police, CAMHS, social services and other professionals to ensure that young people get the support they need.
Referrals
The ORS team is directly linked to the four Essex YOT's, based at Basildon, Harlow, Chelmsford and Colchester.
