Our Isle of Wight children’s centres goes from strength to strength

Young child at children's centreWe were delighted with our recent Ofsted report for our West Newport children’s centre. The centre was ranked good overall - and outstanding for both the effectiveness of evaluation and its use in setting ambitious targets which secure improvement in outcomes, plus capacity for sustained improvement including the quality of its leadership and management.

Jean Trewhitt, our local Assistant Director, says, ‘This is a well deserved outcome for a phase 2 centre designated in September 2009, which has undergone significant changes following budget reductions and staffing changes. Jane Leigh Programme Manager, Suze Keynes Centre Leader, and the team are to be congratulated.’

True to our commitment to meaningful inclusiveness and understanding of all our service users’ needs, the report stated, ‘A community project to obtain children’s views about how to improve their lives has been particularly successful in influencing the centres work’. Safeguarding is, as in all our centres, a high priority so parents and carers can relax and enjoy playing with their children and relaxing with their peers. The report also commented on the innovative project we developed to reach out to more families. This saw us take our provision to outdoors areas – and meant that we raised our profile but also demonstrated to all parents and carers in the area that playing outside can be fun whatever the weather!
