The Children’s Society believes that the £430 million allocated to ‘Aiming High for Disabled Children’ will greatly benefit disabled children and young people and their families by helping Local Authorities and Primary Care Trusts deliver a step change in short break provision.

As either a Pathfinder or Non-Pathfinder Local Authority, you will no doubt be currently considering the most effective way to improve the outcomes for disabled children and young people in your local area through maximising your short break funding allocation.

We would like to take this opportunity to announce The Children’s Society as an expert service provider that is passionate about disabled children and young people and committed to meeting your outcomes. We have local experts that are keen to discuss partnership opportunities. Our aim is to work together to maximise this funding and help deliver effective outcomes to improve short break services.

The Children's Society PACT Project is an outcome-focused practice that runs an award winning student scheme providing 40 disabled children and young people each year age and interest appropriate inclusive activities in their local community. The scheme is successfully meeting the needs of autistic children and young people who constitute 40% of referrals. In addition, the project provides weekends away for small groups of friends, supports children to enjoy family holidays and provides a six week summer holiday experience for more than 30 disabled children and young people, many of whom have additional special needs.

"We have commissioned services from The Children's Society PACT project since 2003 and have always found the staff to be enthusiastic and creative. The innovation of the student scheme has been invaluable and has taught us a lot,” Dave McCormick and Howard Lovelady, York Learning, Culture and Children's Services.

With over 75 years of expertise we deliver real and measurable outcomes.
