Our response to the government’s announcement about childcare

In response to the government's announcement about childcare today, Ellen Broome, The Children's Society's Director of Policy said: 
 
'We welcome plans outlined by Elizabeth Truss this morning to improve the quality of childcare with more highly skilled staff. But there are some serious gaps.

'We are concerned that many parents who are already facing significant cuts to the support they receive for childcare costs will find it even harder to access affordable, high quality childcare.

'Today’s proposals to cut the ratio of staff working with young children could impact on the quality of care these children receive. To support children at this early stage in their development, it is crucial that they get enough one to one interaction and high quality care.'
