Maria Miller MP visits the Art Room
Maria Miller MP, the Conservative Shadow Minister for the Family, visited The Art Room, a Children’s Centre run by The Children’s Society, on the Lakes Estate in Bletchley, Milton Keynes on 18 May 2009.
Maria had the opportunity to meet some of the local children and families who use the services provided by The Art Room, as well as staff from The Children’s Society who run the centre.
Lesley Williams, Programme Manager at the Art Room, described to Maria the many activities that the Art Room offers to local children and families, including yoga, music and art, which encourage child development and build relationships within the community.
The Art Room is well-known for reaching out to all parents and children locally, including fathers, young mothers, mums-to-be and children with special needs. Maria was very interested to hear how amongst other partner agencies health visitors play a key role at the centre, and how the centre supports local childminders.
Lesley Williams, Programme Manager at the Art Room, comments:
“All of the families and the staff at the Art Room were delighted to have the opportunity to meet Maria and to tell her about the services we provide here, and why they are so important to local children and families. We are very proud of how the Art Room supports both parents and children, and hope Maria found the visit informative.”
