Concerning the prime minister's speech on internet safety
Commenting on the prime minister’s speech today on internet safety, Ellen Broome, Policy Director of The Children’s Society, said:
'The Prime Minister’s recommendations will play a key part in keeping children safe online, making it harder for children to stumble across disturbing and harmful content. But while making it easier to block access to explicit material is important, we should remember that this is just one part of the solution.
'Blocking search results alone won’t stop the abuse these images depict, and we cannot focus on just stopping access. Each image represents the abuse of a child in the real world and it's essential that more is done to prosecute the perpetrators of this awful crime.
'It is vital that we educate children about dangers online and how to protect themselves. Parents can’t always monitor every single thing their children do online, so we need to teach children to make judgements independently and keep themselves safe.
