We are all Malala

Who would have guessed what, and who, John the Baptist would become? His own father had to be informed that a prophet was to be born. Who could have imagined that his life would be a prophetic message, pointing to the most significant life-saving event in the history of human kind?
'What will this child turn out to be?’ (Luke 1: 66)
No one knows what contribution any child may make or whose life they will influence. Each is a gift to the world.
Yet many experience rejection at birth, others are abandoned, some do not know their birth parents at all and are raised by foster parents or adopted.
Children should be encouraged to pursue their goals
However, even in the so-called ‘developed’ world, children and girls in particular, continue to be sold as commodities and trafficked. All this is terrifying news for children in general and for girls in particular.
The inspiring story of 15-year-old schoolgirl Malala Yousafzai, an unlikely and unintentional champion for education for girls in Pakistan, is a ray of hope.
As someone who taught herself to read and write, I am inspired and grateful for courageous young women all over the world who risk unknown terrors in pursuit of the basic human rights to life and education.
Children continue to be born into challenging circumstances. Who knows what each child will turn out to be?
