girl giving medicine to her mother, and text about government support for carers

Today is the first day of Carers Week, a UK-wide annual campaign to improve the lives of carers and the people they care for. We strongly support the goals of Carers Week.

For years we have advocated for and helped the thousands of young carers across England. Currently we’re supporting Young Carers in Focus (YCiF), an exciting opportunity for young carers to feel empowered and supported to have a voice with a wider audience. If you’re a young carer or know one, please have a look at the site.

You can support young carers

Another way to get involved is by supporting the Thunderclap we’ve organised with Barnardo’s and Carers Trust, calling for the government and MPs to support an amendment to the children and families bill. This amendment would give young carers something they need: entitlement to assessment and support.

Join our Thunderclap today.

When young people take on inappropriate levels of caring the negative impacts on young carers can be wide ranging, severe and enduring.

To learn more, have a look at our infographic about the young carers’ issues, or read about our new report, Hidden from View: Experiences of young carers in England.
