How your support helped Chris
I’ve been through hell since I was small. I come from a home where there were problems with both domestic and alcohol abuse, and we moved house a lot.
I’ve been through things and seen things not even adults should have seen.
I got into a lot of trouble at home and at school because of my extreme behaviour and emotional issues.
I've been through hell since I was small
When I was 12 I was tested for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and mental health problems they suspected were because of my childhood. And because of my low self-esteem and lack of confidence, I always felt angry. It was hard for me to get on with others.
My learning support mentor referred me to The Children’s Society youth inclusion programme. I started going to their regular football sessions and made loads of friends. Something I can’t do in my local area because you can’t go out or ever feel safe due to the constant fights and robberies.
I took part in other activities too and had regular support sessions with my mentor, who I knew I could trust to talk to about any worries or issues I had at home and at school.
For the past three years The Children’s Society has helped me and my family with all sorts of problems and now things are finally looking up.
